10 Mind-blowing Facts the Haters Don't Want You to Know about the Pentagram and Pentacle!

  1. First and foremost, let's bust one myth right off the get...pentacles are NOT the sign of the devil. They are NOT demonic. They are NOT evil in any way, shape, or form. That's a narrative given by a French occultist in the early 1900s who personally declared an inverted pentagram as a sign of evil. Pop culture and religion took this and ran with it! There is no other documented history of this suggestion.

  2. Pentacles are not indicative of religion. Yes, several religions do incorporate the pentacle into their practice, but you are not required to follow a particular religion to honor the symbolism of the pentacle.

  3. The pentagram (the star in the middle of the pentacle), has been used for thousands of years. I'm talking like 5,000 years! It is believed to have originated as a symbol, depicting the harmony of 5 planets and can be dated back to the Stone Age!

  4. Pythagoras used the pentagram as a symbol of balance in health and human design.

  5. The Christian Church used to use the pentagram as a holy symbol representing the 5 wounds of Jesus Christ. Many other religions including, but not limited to, Judaism, Muslim, Wiccan, and Pagan, have used the pentagram symbol as well.

6. For the purpose of using the pentacle on your magical path, it is representative of nature. The five points of the pentagram (star) represent the 5 natural elements we use in life. Water, Fire, Earth, Air and Spirit. To learn more about the elements and Elemental Magic, check out this lesson in our shop!

7. A pentagram becomes a pentacle when it is encircled by a ring symbolizing the connection of all the elements.

8. Pentacles are drawn, worn, and carried as talismans for protection, balance, and

reminders of the path we are on.

9. The Pentagram and Pentacle are symbols of love and harmony. When you see or wear

them, they are meant to serve as a reminder that we are all part of the same world, and if

we use the natural gifts the Universe has given us, we can all live soul aligned lives in

              harmony.

Ok, now for the 10th and WILDEST (in my opinion) FACT about the Pentagram and Pentacle (and this may just be because I'm a nerd, but...)

10. Mathematically, the segments of the pentagram are in "divine proportion" equaling 1.618

each. This is also known as the "Golden Ratio" (1+√5)/2 which is what makes it so

aesthetically pleasing. Did you know that the Pyramids of Giza, DaVinci's Mona Lisa,

X (formerly known as Twitter) and Pepsi were also designed using the Golden Ratio? Our

human faces and bodies also follow this mathematical ratio! Our brains have a

subconscious attraction to things that follow the Golden Ratio. It can be found throughout

the natural world as well...sea shells, sunflowers, chameleon tails, plants, galaxies,

hurricanes, ocean waves, snail shells, pine cones, spider webs, I could go ON and ON!

Call me crazy, but this is no coincidence. We are literally one with the Universe, well

1.618! (wink)
